\nof changes to the LSS, December 2nd, 2019<\/p>\n

Dear customer,<\/p>\n

Rules regarding a 0.1%
\nmaximum sulphur content of fuel oil in areas (Emission Control Areas – ECA)
\nwere introduced in 2015. Samskip has collected the low sulphur surcharge (LSS)
\nenvironmental fee since.<\/p>\n

As of January 1, 2020,
\namended international rules on shipping fuel oil\u2019s sulphur content outside of
\nECA regions come into force. In those areas, the maximum sulphur content of
\nbunker fuel is limited to 0.5% instead of 3.5%. As mentioned, the changes apply
\nto regions outside the areas defined for 0.1% content in 2015.<\/p>\n

The regulation is a
\nresult of the United Nations Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from
\nShips, enforced by the International Maritime Organization. The regulation\u2019s
\npurpose is to make shipping more environmentally friendly by reducing sulphur
\nin bunker fuel.<\/p>\n

These changes increase
\nfuel costs, resulting in a higher environmental fee (LSS). As before,
\nenvironmental fee changes follow oil price changes.<\/p>\n

Samskip is very
\nconcerned about the environment and prides itself of being at the forefront in
\nadopting new technologies and methods to reduce the environmental impact of its
\noperations. The focus is on transporting products between places in the most cost-effective
\nway available for both customer and the environment. This is done by maximizing
\nthe utilization of the transport systems, reducing energy consumption per
\ntransport unit, as well as by using the most efficient modes of transport.
\nSamskip closely monitors technological progress and takes part in a wide range
\nof technological development in shipping.<\/p>\n

The new environmental
\nfee (LSS) will be USD 153 per TEU and will be valid as of 15th<\/sup> of
\nDecember 2019 . More information about the sulphur content of shipping
\noil is accessible here<\/a>.<\/p>\n
