Saefari Ferry

Saefari Ferry offers scheduled trips from Dalvík to Grímsey and Hrísey.

The islands are known for their palatial scenery and diverse bird life and have over the past few years gained a reputation as charming and popular tourist destinations.

The Sæfari ferry will be in dry dock from November 12th - November 30th and therefore it is not possible to book tickets during that period.

  • Departures from Grímsey are after the discharge and loading of the ferry.
  • Cars must be booked no later than at noon the next working day before departure.
  • Cars to be transported, must arrive 1 hour before departure.
  • Passengers must arrive at least 30 minutes before departure, booking and sale

Saefari Ferry offers scheduled trips from Dalvík to Grímsey and Hrísey .  The islands are known for their palatial scenery and diverse bird life and have over the past few years gained a reputation as charming and popular tourist destinations. The Arctic Circle runs right through the middle of Grímsey and all those who step over the Circle can receive a special, illuminated certificate to confirm it.

Grímsey is Iceland´s northernmost inhabited island and home to around 100 persons, most of whom are employed in the fishing industry. The 100 metre high cliffs on the island´s east coast are the nesting place of many species of birds and one of the best sites in the country for birdwatching. Plus, a view of the midnight sun in Grímsey is simply unforgettable.

Hrísey , often called the pearl of Eyjafjordur, is a peaceful island in the middle of the fjord, it is the second largest island in Iceland, after Heimaey in the south. The island is a well known paradise for bird watchers and the most abundant of all birds on the island is the ptarmigan. About 40 species of bird nest on the island.
